MANNING — Bishop England’s perfect season came to an end with a 26-22 region loss at Manning on Friday.

The Bishops (7-1, 1-1) were ranked No. 5 in the latest Class AAA media poll but fall into third place in Region 7-AAA behind Manning and Timberland, who’ve yet to lose a region game.

Manning senior quarterback Jalen White ran in the go-ahead score from 21 yards out with 4:43 left to play in the fourth quarter. White finished with 233 yards and two passing touchdowns to go with another 43 yards on the ground. All 10 of White’s completions were to junior receiver David Fulton.

Bishop England turned the ball over on downs with 1:25 remaining. Junior quarterback Leo Albano rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown, averaging 10.6 yards per carry, but the Bishops didn’t have another player rush for more than 33 yards. Bishop England’s 35 rushing attempts tie its season low.

Albano threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Christian Greavu to put the Bishops up 7-0 midway through the first quarter. He tossed a 16-yard score to Andrew Pizzo to reclaim a 14-13 lead with three minutes left in the second.

Albano moved Bishop England ahead, 22-19, with a 31-yard touchdown run with 5:47 left in the fourth quarter. Manning needed just 64 seconds to answer.

Manning’s 433 total yards are the second-most surrendered by Bishop England this season. Through its first two region games, the Bishops defense has allowed its opponents 886 yards of offense.

Bishop England returns home to host Timberland (4-3, 1-0) this week. The Bishops have dropped two straight against the Wolves and are just 1-12 in the all-time series.
