Bishop England is ranked No. 5 in the latest S.C. Prep Media Poll headed into its Region 7-AAA opener this week.

The undefeated Bishops (6-0) trail only Dillon, Bluffton, Fairfield Central and Strom Thurmond in the Class AAA poll. Bishop England began the season unranked but slid up to No. 8 by mid-September after capping an impressive start with a pair of wins in five days. The Bishops are one of just 12 teams still unbeaten out of more than 200 high schools in the state.

Bishop England is 6-0 for the first time since 1982. No Bishops team since Jack Cantey’s 1987 squad had pulled off a perfect run through its region slate until this season.

The Bishops kick off their region slate against Hanahan Friday on Daniel Island. Bishop England has dropped four straight against Hanahan and 17 of the past 18. Lake Marion was originally scheduled as the Bishops’ region opener on Oct. 7 but the threat of Hurricane Matthew forced the schools to reschedule for Nov. 4.

None of the four opponents left on the Bishops’ schedule are ranked.
