Bishop England blasted two home runs in the 13th inning of a 5-3 marathon win at region rival Hanahan on Tuesday.

Hanahan rose to No. 1 in the latest S.C. Baseball Coaches Association AAA rankings released Monday, overthrowing the now third-ranked Bishops, who’d held the top slot since the preseason. The Hawks and Bishops are now tied atop Region 7-AAA, both 5-2 in conference play.

The Bishops were down two outs in the top of the 13th inning when Jarren McCoy lifted a solo shot over the left field wall off Hawks senior Luke Litwin. Chase Loggins followed with his own blast in the next at-bat, watching three balls breeze by before homering to left to open a two-run Bishops cushion.

Camden Mitchell kept the Hawks alive with a double two outs into the bottom of the 13th inning. Charlie Mac Toman followed with a walk, putting the tying run on first base. Jonathan Barham battled into a full count in the next at-bat before flying out to deep left field.

Sophomore right-hander Daniel Brooks went the first six innings for the Bishops, allowing four hits with two walks while striking out seven. William Anderson handled the next seven innings, striking out seven while holding the Hawks scoreless despite five hits and four walks.

Hanahan senior Trey Pooser pitched well most of the night, entering in the sixth inning and allowing five hits and three walks while striking out 10 through seven innings.

Toman started for the Hawks, cruising early without allowing a hit through the first four innings until both sides began striking back and forth. Down two strikes, with two outs in the top of the fifth, Corey Cochran singled home Matthew Turisk to push the Bishops ahead 1-0.

Randy Scott answered for the Hawks in the bottom frame, driving in Mer-Shevron Campbell and William Pugh with a double to right.

Anderson got two runs back for the Bishops in the top of the sixth, scoring Geoffrey Gilbert and Chris Dengler with a single up the gap to center.

Coleman Jenkins evened the game, 3-3, scoring on a failed pickoff attempt in the bottom of the sixth.

Hanahan loaded the bases in the seventh inning and put what would’ve been the game-winning run in scoring position in the eighth and 10th inning.

Bishop England will host AAAAA No. 8 Summerville on Wednesday before welcoming Hanahan on Friday.

Senior ace Geoffrey Gilbert will start for the Bishops on Friday. The Clemson signee is 4-0 with a 0.253 ERA having thrown 54 strikeouts against just eight hits this season.
