Wando placed fifth while Bishop England finished 10th in the Lady Patriot Invitational this week in North Charleston.

Fort Dorchester’s annual girls golf tournament hosted by the Wescott Golf Club featured 15 teams this year, 11 of them ranked eighth or better in their respective classifications.

Defending AAAAA state champion Lexington used a strong finish to outlast AAAA champion St. James atop the team leaderboard. Lexington entered the Monday’s second round holding a 1-stroke lead over St. James. The Wildcats shaved 11 stokes off Sunday’s total to fend off the Sharks, who improved by seven strokes.

Wando finished Sunday positioned seventh overall. The Warriors, ranked eighth in AAAAA, dropped 20 strokes on Monday, though, led by eighth-grader Ella Drew Dodd who shot 15 better.

Sophomore Regan Clifford led Wando with a team-low 157, following a first-round 80 with a 77 the second day to finish tied for 16th overall in the 80-player field. Emma Smith followed with a two-day 160 to land 20th. Lilia Joyce shot 170.

Bishop England, ranked third in AAA-A, shooting five strokes worse from Sunday to Monday, despite impressive improvement from Kennedy Carroll.

Carroll finished three over par to take fifth place on the individual leaderboard. The Bishops junior dropped five strokes from her first round to card a 1-under 71, Monday’s third-best score. Kat Klein tied for 26th at 168. Ally Dominak shot 184 and Ainsley Western shot 201.

St. James’ Smith Knaffle earned match medalist following an opening-round 70 with an 8-under 64. St. James placed three golfers inside the top eight, while Lexington finished with four inside the top 10.
