Bishop England went 3-1 over three days in the Hanahan Invitational Tournament last week on Daniel Island.

The Bishops bolstered their resume with two out-of-state wins over teams from Virginia and North Carolina.

Bishop England (12-8) closes its regular season with a pair of home games this week, Tuesday against James Island and Wednesday versus Manning.

Fort Dorchester 3, Bishop England 2
Bishop England was held without a base runner through the final three innings of a 3-2 loss to Fort Dorchester Tuesday.

Fort Dorchester extended a three-run lead with two runs in the fourth as C.J. Belton tripled home Drew Yniesta and Pedro Rios.

Gregory Sanders stole third in the bottom frame before scoring on a Corey Cochran fielder’s choice. Shawn Runey added a second run one pitch later as Riley Carrigan reached on an infield error. Fort Dorchester pitcher Justin Holladay then retired the next 10 Bishops in order to close out the win.

Holladay earned the complete-game win for the Patriots, striking out 13 while allowing just one hit and three walks.

Bishop England 7, Independence (N.C.) 1
Geoffrey Gilbert gave up just one run off two hits while striking out five to lead Bishop England past Independence 7-1 on Wednesday.

Bishop England scored twice in the first inning as Cochran crossed on a Gilbert sacrifice and Albano stole home. The Bishops added another run in the fourth and four more in the fifth.

Albano finished 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Karson Mingo drove in two runs. Runey, Carrigan, Sanders and Gilbert each scored once.

Bishop England 9, Cane Bay 2
Ryan Gaffney drove in three runs as Bishop England rolled past Cane Bay 9-2 Wednesday night.

Gaffney drove in one in the first inning off a fielder’s choice, another with a double in the fifth and the third off a bases-loaded walk in the Bishops’ five-run sixth inning.

Eight different Bishops reached base in the game and seven scored at least one run. Cochran hit 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Cane Bay tied the game with two runs off a single and an error in the fourth inning. Cochran regained the Bishops’ lead in the fifth off an error moments before Gaffney drove in Gilbert.

Matthew McManus went five innings on the mound for the Bishops, allowing two runs, one earned, off four hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Will Bastian struck out two with one walk and no hits through the final two innings.
