Bishop England girls lacrosse dealt top-ranked Wando its first loss of the season, 12-11, Wednesday on Daniel Island.

Junior attack Emma Pizzo scored a game-high six goals for the defending state champion Lady Bishops, currently ranked third in the state. Ava Ward and Sydney Campbell both added two goals, while Beatrice Navarro directed the Bishops’ defense with eight ground balls and four takeaways.

Bishop England led 6-4 at halftime and survived a seven-goal second half from the Warriors.

Wando junior midfielder Morgan Mitchell scored three goals and set up three more. Skylar Horner, Sophie Moore and Bethany Holden each scored twice for the Lady Warriors. Morgan Mitchell scooped seven ground balls with three takeaways. Wheaton Shipman and Holden both tallied six ground balls.

Warriors sophomore goalkeeper Logan Lillie posted 13 saves. The Northwestern commit leads the state in save percentage this season.

Wando has dropped the past five games against Bishop England by a combined eight goals. The Lady Warriors still lead the all-time series 14-7.

Bishop England (7-1) hosts No. 9 Bluffton on Saturday as part of a seven-game home stand to close the regular season. Wando (6-1) opens a four-game home stretch next Wednesday against No. 5 Chapin that'll close its regular season.
